Patient Ownership Transitions

While "boarding" technically starts after the ED Admit Request is placed, patient ownership does not immediately transition to the inpatient team.

  • Non-ICU Patients

    • Patient care is taken over by the admitting team 4 hours after the ED Admit Request is ordered.

    • Should a patient's condition deteriorate, the ED team will re-evaluate and provide resuscitation and stabilization as needed.

  • ICU Patients

    • In general, the ED team will remain responsible for the patient's care while the patient is still in the department.

    • The MICU team is currently the only critical care team that will round on the patients in the ED and help manage them.

 

Psych Boarding at Highlands ED

  • CPM admissions at HED will be transferred to UED if no bed is available within 4 hrs.

  • The HED physician should call the Pod 4 physician to discuss the transfer.
