About

  • These are yearly metrics tracked by the hospital and tied to revenue.

  • Doing better at these metrics means more money for the department.

  • It is important that we all work towards improving these metrics.

Department Metrics (FY2022)

There are 5 metrics for FY2022. Please see details of each metric below the list.

  1. Documentation Compliance: Procedural Sedation

  2. Documentation Compliance: Restraints

  3. Chart Signature Timeliness

  4. Opiate Prescriptions (12 tabs or less)

  5. Critical Care Documentation

Documentation Compliance: Procedural Sedation

  • Use the Procedural Sedation template in our designated notes

  • ED Physician Note, ED Addendum Note, & ED Procedure Note

  • All other notes will NOT count.

  • Do not change the title of the PowerNote, because the report might miss it and count the encounter as a failure.

Documentation Compliance: Restraints

  • Order the restraints within 1 hour of the actual restraints being placed.

Chart Signature Timeliness

  • Sign charts and address deficiencies timely.

  • Avoid leaving unfinished notes in your message center.

  • The goal is to have the attending’s signature on the note within 48 hours.

Opiate Prescriptions

  • Reduce the number of opiate prescriptions with greater than 12 tabs.

  • The total number of prescriptions does not matter. You can continue to write opiate prescriptions for patients that need them, but reduce the quantity to 12 or less in most circumstances.

Critical Care Documentation

  • This metric specifically looks at ESI level 1 and ICU patients.

  • If you have a patient that meets this criteria, they generally qualify for critical care time. Please document it in the required field in our notes.

  • Importantly: if a patient is signed out and critical care time is rendered after sign-out please add that to ED Addendum notes as well.
