Three important steps for ED physicians performing procedural sedation:

1. For documentation, use the template in the “Procedure” section of the ED Physician Note. This is important for compliance/regulatory purposes.

2. Per hospital policy, If one of the following medications is used, the sedation should be designated as “Deep Sedation”.

   • Propofol

   • Ketamine

   • Etomidate

3. All patients discharged home after procedural sedation must have the following patient education added to their discharge papers:  

   • "Procedural Sedation, Adult, Care After".
