Current Studies in the ED

While there are ongoing studies that do not require active physician engagement, there are a few circumstances that ED physicians need to be actively considering.

Please contact the RA via the Vocera group “Emergency Medicine Research”:

  • Cardiac arrest (ICECAP Trial)

  • Acute gout flairs

  • Acute pain (less than 8 weeks) being prescribed a short-course of opiates

Scientific Research Committee

The SRC aims to provide feedback and support for any researcher seeking to engage in any research project in the department which may require DEM resources. Faculty are encouraged to engage the SRC in research proposals and/or protocols in early stages, prior to research initiation. Led by the Vice Chair of Research or other appointed Committee Chair, and consisting of additional DEM research faculty and staff, the SRC will meet ad hoc to present and consider research proposals, as submitted. When applicable, the SRC will also consist of biostatistical expertise, the DEM research manager, IRB representation, and other pertinent department representatives.

SRC Aims:

  1. Review & discuss project idea, to include potential challenges and feasibility.

  2. Provide applicable EM resources and network to enable next steps.

To engage the SRC, please email Lauren Walter, lwalter@uabmc.edu.
